This was our import speed and accessory shop in Glendora, CA. We were open every night till midnight. Have you ever heard of having to close a business because you were to busy?? Well that’s what happened at Street Freeks. We had a huge parking lot and we had car shows every week. The parking lot could hold about 200 cars, but the overflow traffic would tie up Main Street Route 66 (yeah, the famous Route 66), so the city had to send police out to direct traffic. This lasted about 6 months until 4 city inspectors came out to show me the 60 violations I had. One city official actually told me to find another city that would like to have me cause the city Glendora didn't. I couldn’t afford to start it over. And fighting the city legally? Yeah, right. So more than a year worth of work down the tube. Almost made me wanna od on Viagra.

Check out the light fixtures. We made these from 1 qt. paint cans suspended from drywall truss. We had TV’s in all the corners and let the customers bring in their own race videos and show them and all the newest car video games running all day. This was more like a club than a speed shop.

Crazier club props. These props were used on the roof of a nightclub in Cleveland Ohio on the river in the flats area, the crazy looking fireplace pictured here would shoot a column of fire over 50 feet high, you could see the flames for like 1/4 of a mile, what a traffic stopper.

Age 18 this was my first alcohol blown and injected early 354 hemi dragster, the picture sucks but it’s the only one left. I remember the first time I fired this up, it was in front of my parents home in Lyndhurst Ohio it had to be push started, no sissy electric starters back then, anyway we pushed it with my dads truck that motor came to life and I shit my pants what a memory!

This was Vorian, the world's first jet powered transforming robot. I built this in the early 80s. This was a 35 foot long NHRA legal jet dragster, with a twist - it transformed into a 2 story tall articulated talking robot with a powerful message to kids to believe in their dreams. Vorian traveled as far as Japan and Australia delivering this message. The Vorian halftime show was seen at drag strips and monster truck shows around the world for more than 20 years.

Here's the cockpit view of Vorian. This thing had more switches, levers, buttons and gauges than you can count, and every one of them did something. It had 3 Omron digital controllers, 2 miles of wiring, 7 deep cycle batteries, 35 gallons of jet fuel, 10lbs of propane, 2 hydraulic pumps and a Westinghouse jet engine out of a small navy fighter plane with a 24 foot tall robot on top. And it could still go over 200mph.

What a body. Vorian's shape came after about 20 different cardboard mock-ups. Me and Jimmy Kieran lived in a 99 dollar a week flea-bag hotel in Dallas Texas for over a year while we worked 18 hours a day 7 days a week to complete my vision. For weeks, every evening Jimmy would make cardboard mock-ups that just weren’t what I was seeing in my head. Since I cant even draw stick men, I wasn’t much help, but one night at about 2 am I saw THE ONE. It was what you see here, 20+ years later I still love it . Jimmy went on to become one of the best fabricators I know.

I was 28 years old when I put this rig together to travel around the country in. The beautiful paint job was done in unheated shop in Cleveland, OH, in the middle of winter, just days before the photo shoot for the Pocket Rocket car at Moroso raceway in Florida for Super Stock magazine. Without my best friend at the time, Duane Hipp, an incredible painter, this would never happened.

This was one bad ass rig. An x show truck that could haul two dragsters. I had a workshop, a complete RV living area with everything, bathroom, shower, kitchen and entertainment system. We lived in this thing for over a year and logged over 150,000 miles on it in that year. Can you believe me and Connie lived and traveled in that little box 24-7 all that time and I am still alive and still have my penis?

Here's a very early prototype head mounted display. It was very immersive, meaning the image was so large and close to your eyes with no outside visuals, you feel immersed or part of the game. But it was so big and heavy after about 5 minutes you had to hold your head up with your hands. Things have come a long way since then.

First public showing of the Cybersphere at the Flats in Cleveland, OH. It was over 100 degrees this weekend and still had a 1-2 hour wait to ride.

This is the Cybersphere. This was a full motion virtual reality simulator ride I designed and built in the early 90s. You would wear a head mounted display and play a Namco Air Combat video game. The sphere you sat up in would simulate the game, if you did a loop or went upside down, the machine would put you upside down. My backyard designed and built simulator won best new game of the year at the game expo in London, England. The best comment I ever got was at this show when the president of Sega, Al Stone, came and shook my hand and said, "Better than anything we have ever done. Great job".

Here is the way we built the plug for the simulator. I named the Cyberdome. (top) The wood sub structure almost ready for plaster. (mid) Plaster on and finished. (bottom) After the fiberglass mold was pulled off, this is what’s left of the plaster mold, breaking up the plaster plug 2 days after it was completed. Knowing all the work it took to get it perfect, made me want to puke.

Here's a picture of my prototype personal motion base inspired by the Star Wars Pod racer. Man, this thing could move so fast it could throw you right of it. I know from experience. We had to slow it way down.

This jet simulator was built at Ride and Show Engineering in San Dimas, CA. Connie and I did the video projection system and the interface unit that married the software to the hydraulics.

The finished Cyberdome. A cool interactive full motion simulator ride. I built this with a motion base inside another motion base. The outside ball rotated 360 degrees on both x and y axis. Inside, the seats moved in 3 independent axis behind a motorized clamshell door-steps. I photographed this before digital cameras. It took me hours to get the lighting and exposures right.

Here I am laying out a chrome molly swing arm on a 2" thick steel table. Ya can't make accurate parts without a good flat table.
